Introducing The Schoolhouse, a stunning five-bed, four-bathroom holiday house, sleeping ten.
Formerly Straloch School, this 19th century listed building, was mothballed by Perth and Kinross Council in 2010. Lucy and her siblings were all pupils back in the day, so we were thrilled to purchase the property in 2023 and have spent several years restoring it to its former glory.
We’ve created a delightful holiday home, perfect for two families or large group get-togethers. The two spacious former classrooms have been converted into a kitchen and sitting room. The kitchen is a chef’s dream; a vast, high-ceilinged, bright and light room equipped with state-of-the-art fixtures and fittings including induction hobs, two Neff ovens, two dishwashers, a sprawling island, a walk-in larder, and endless storage. Not to mention the 55” flat screen TV and wall-mounted SONOS speakers.
Above the kitchen table which comfortably seats ten is a striking triptych of paintings commissioned from Edinburgh artist Jonathan Freemantle depicting our favourite Straloch landscapes.
The sitting room is a relaxed space with heaps of seating, a second flat screen TV and a wood burning stove. Our collection of retro framed posters is already a talking point.
Another design feature throughout the house are our reclaimed cast-iron radiators, dating back to the 1930s art deco period. Not only do they look striking in a range of vibrant colours, but they keep the house toasty thanks to the latest sustainable air source heat pump technology. A fine fusion of old meets new.
And for outdoors, there’s a six-seater hydrotherapy hot tub ideal for a rejuvenating post-walk muscle massage or perhaps a spot of serene star gazing.
At the rear of the property is a charming, contained garden. A children’s playframe will be in place by the summer and we’ve even lovingly restored the original school see-saw.
With convenient access to our local country road, the Schoolhouse is set apart from our existing two holiday cottages. Guests are free to roam around the estate, enjoying the tennis court, loch fishing and endless walks across the 3000 acres. A Wild Picnic up at our bothy in the hills is a must.
Not only is it the perfect rural retreat for guests to switch off but it comes with two EV points so your cars can re-charge too.
There are two bedrooms on the ground floor, one of which is en-suite, and the other is wheelchair friendly. Both beds are zip link so can be made up as doubles or singles.
Also on the ground floor are two additional bathrooms, one of them fully accessible.
Upstairs in the former Headmistresses’ house are three bedrooms and a bathroom. One bedroom is a twin, another with its charming antique brass bed is a double, and the third can be made up as either. Bathroom number four is also on the first floor.
All bedrooms are extremely cosy with designer wallpaper, ambient lighting, cast-iron radiators, and original artworks.
As you’d expect from team Straloch, it’s feather duvets, crisp white bedlinen, fluffy white towels, and organic shower gels, soaps, and shampoos from The Highland Soap Company.
